Want to make a difference to your community?

Are you interested in Village matters for Bearley? Would you like to be part of decision making? Would you like to make a difference?

Last year, the Parish Council asked for volunteers to consider and stand for election to the Parish Council. At the time nobody came forward. This means that there are currently only three points of view being put forward.

There are four vacancies on the Parish Council, so if you answered yes to any of the questions above then why not consider this opportunity?

It is important to note that if we lose a Councillor, we may be taken over by the District Council. That means that the decisions about how Bearley’s share of your Council Tax is spent, will be taken by people who don’t even live here.

The Parish Council encourages you to put your name forward for co-option to the Council.

You will be surprised how interesting and rewarding it will be, and if you’re still wavering, here are some of the reasons why you might be thinking it’s not for you:

Reason 1:
“I’m not a politician. Most politicians are power-crazed scoundrels”

Reply:
Maybe they are, but being on the Parish Council is about making practical, common sense decisions for the benefit of the community. It is absolutely not about scoring political points.

Reason 2:
“I’m too busy. This will take up all my spare time”

Reply:
You can put as much or as little time as you can spare. A couple of hours a week is normally quite enough. Meetings are every two months.

Reason 3:
What difference can the Parish Council make anyway?

Reply:
Without the Parish Council, we probably wouldn’t have the 30mph speed limit on Snitterfield Road, the pedestrian refuge on the Birmingham Road, a village hall, a playground.

With the potential development of the Countrywide site, there could be some big decisions ahead.

Help us to make the right ones! Parish Councils serve to be the voice of the community, which is only possible if those voices are heard and shared.

Interested? Then don’t hesitate to speak to one of the Parish Councillors or our Clerk to find out more and what’s involved.

Vacancies are open for application until Wednesday 17 February 2021.
